Nigerian poet of international acclaim, Romeo Oriogun, is part of the jury for 2024 Neustadt International Prize for Literature. Often tagged the ‘American Nobel’, the prize crowns literary work of ‘great accomplishments’ by a living writer in any genre. It is a biennial award sponsored by the University of Oklahoma and World Literature Today. Previous recipients of the prize are: Italian poet Giuseppe Ungaretti,  Nobel laureates Gabriel García Márquez, Czesław Miłosz, and Octavio Paz.

Together, they will select a number of finalists to be announced in late May. Voting for the 2024 prize will follow subsequently at the University of Oklahoma, during the Neustadt Lit Fest this fall (October 23–25, 2023).

Romeo Oriogun, a Nigerian poet and essayist, is the author of Sacrament of Bodies, Nomad, and three chapbooks. He has received the Nigeria Prize for Literature, the Brunel International African Poetry Prize, and the Alice Fay Di Castagnola Award. A finalist for the Lambda Prize for Gay Poetry and for the Future Awards African Prize for Literature, he has received fellowships and support from Ebedi International Writers Residency, Harvard University, Hutchins Center for African and African American Research, Oregon Institute for Creative Research, and the IIE-Artist Protection Fund. A graduate of the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, his poems have been translated into several languages.
