The Museum of the African Diaspora has unveiled the shortlist of their literary prize for this year. The shortlist showcases an array of brilliant voices:

-Meron Hadero, A Down Home Meal for These Difficult Times: Stories (Restless Books 2022)

-Arinze Ifeakandu, God’s Children Are Little Broken Things: Stories (A Public Space Books 2022)

– Noor Naga, When An Egyptian Cannot Speak English: A Novel (Graywolf 2022)

-Eloghosa Osunde, Vagabonds!: A Novel (Penguin Random House 2022)

First launched in 2022, MOaD’s  African Literary Award recognizes an author who has  “produced a work of literary excellence that expands global understanding of African lives and storytelling.” This year, the judges made their selection on the basis of each writer’s “strength of writing and their ability to highlight new stories, and the impact of these books on the landscape of contemporary African literature.” The final winner will be announced on November 20, 2023 while a virtual ceremony and reading will be held with the winner on December 23.

MoAD is a contemporary art museum that explores and celebrates the cultures and art of the global African Diaspora; it seeks to inspire learning through challenging conversations. Read more about the award and shortlisted authors here.
