Côte d’Ivoire writer, Véronique Tadjo, has won the Los Angeles Times Book Prizes (Fiction Category) for her novel In the Company of Men. The award ceremony was held at USC’s Bovard Auditorium. The judges described Tadjo’s novel as one that is “gripping” and “prescient.”
Founded in 1980 by Los Angeles Times book editor from 1978 to 1985, Art Seidenbaum, the awards are given annually in different categories: Best Graphic Novel/Comics, Best History, Best mystery/thriller, Best Poetry, Best Science & Technology, and the Ray Bradbury Prize, Best Biography, Best Current Interest winner, and the Art Seidenbaum Award for First Fiction. Namwali Serpell won the award in 2020.
Tadjo’s novel gives a real account of the Ebola outbreak that devastated West Africa in 2014.
