Ould Slahi’s memoir, Guantanámo Diary, which was published in 2015 by Little Brown and Company is set for theatrical release in the United States on February 19. The film adaptation of the book is titled The Mauritanian.
The Film is produced by BBC and is directed by Kevin Macdonald. It features performances by Jodi Foster, Benedict Cumberbatch, Shailene Woodley, and Tahar Rahim as Slahi.
Slahi wrote his memoir during his 14-year detainment from 2002 to 2016 at Guantanámo Bay, where he was held without charge on suspicion of terrorist activity.
The manuscript which was handwritten, almost 466 pages, was first released to the director of the PEN Freedom to Write Program, Larry Siems, by Slahi’s lawyers. The book was optioned for film in 2015.
The Mauritanian has received three nomination for the 2021 London Critics’ Circle Film Awards which includes, Film of the Year, Director of the Year, and Actor of the Year.
Slahi debut novel will be released in February this year by Ohio University Press.
