Zimbabwean Writer, NoViolet Bulawayo was recently announced to make the shortlist of the The Rathbones Folio Prize for her second Novel, Glory.
The prize, which is in its 10th year, is a prestigious literary award established in 2014 by the Folio Society, a London-based publisher of illustrated books and is sponsored by Rathbone investment. The prize is open to works of fiction, non-fiction and poetry and aims to celebrate the best English-language writing from around the world, regardless of form, genre, or the author’s nationality.
The prize is awarded annually to a work of literature that is judged to have the greatest literary merit. A winner from each genre will be selected and will receive £2,000, after which a single winner will be selected, who will be awarded the Rathbone Folio Prize winner and a accompanying sum of £30,000
The jury for the Prize is made up of writers, critics, and other literary experts. The judges for this year’s prize were Ali Smith (Chair), Jackie Kay and Guy Gunaratne. The Judges described the book as “A novel of such imaginative force that in navigating its own imagined reality, it unmoors our own.”
NoViolet previously made the Booker Prize Shortlist for her first Novel, We need New names in 2013 and last year, her second Novel, Glory made the Booker Prize Shortlist.
