The Library of Africa and The African Diaspora (LOATAD) and the Savannah Centre for Contemporary Art (SCCA) are launching a 4-week writing residency open to African writers aged 21 or older writing across all genres.

The aim of this residency is to provide writers the time and space to work on a long project. Residents will be granted access to LOATAD’s collection of books by writers based in Africa and in the diaspora, as well as receive the opportunity to interact with artists from across disciplines at the SSCA.

This residency will be held from mid-May to mid-June 2021. The first two weeks will be spent in Accra and the last two in Tamale.

Accommodation costs are fully covered, but residents will be required to pay for their own food, as well as their travel to, from and within Ghana.

Interested applicants are required to attach the following in their submission:

  • A writing sample of no more than 2000 words.
  • A writer’s CV.
  • A letter detailing in less than 500 words why you want to be a part of the residency program.
  • Two professional referees.

Applications should be emailed to residency@loatad.org. The deadline for applications is 12pm GMT January 18, 2021.

Shortlisted applicants will be invited for an interview to be held online in February and successful applicants will be notified by March 2021.
